Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior official stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
